Don’t Watch Me, Watch Your Mouth!
Salam, [meaning peace be upon you]….. imagine if i started saying listen to my f***** post its mad interesting, may evil be upon you, Astugurillah!!!
Automatically you see the difference in Speech. So as Human Beings with a sense of Morality, let’s realize the signifance of having dialogue with respect rather than cursing and being uneducated.
Now somebody can say what is profanity, cursing? First of all they are correlated, let’s look at websters definition,
Curs-ing: to afflict with great evil, the expression of a wish that misfortune, evil, doom, etc., befall a person, group, a profane oath; curse word.
Profanity: the quality of being profane, irreverance, profance conduct or language
So watch your mouth because in order for people to understand you, they would have to listen to you first, and more importantly remember Dawah is by Action, so don’t use profanity like its all good, because when non muslims see muslims they see how they act, how they talk, their are ettiquetes to our life in every aspect
And talking is an form of action, and its the first step in fixing your character, which is why our beloved Prophet Muhammad said
1) “Whosoever gurantees the protection of his tongue and private parts, i shall gurantee him Paradise”
2) Anas ibn Maalik (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) was not a person who insulted people or used obscene language, and he did not curse people. If he wanted to rebuke anyone, he would say, “What is wrong with him? – may his forehead be rubbed with dust.”
Why do people curse for no reason, in their sentences, like they need it to prove their point, or express their anger, or just because its so common in our society, culture, when you listen to music, or watch a movie, play video games, that you have little kids saying it, not that age justifies you cursing but Astugurillah, People do not understand the importance of controlling their tongue!
How can we fix our speech?
Simple, Watch what you say. Be concious. of what you say, carry a mirror around to watch what you say.
There are many situational factors which contribute to this, of course your settings, (high school was one stage for me), your friends, and most importantly what you put into your mind and heart, when your on your own, what do you watch, or listen to consistently that contributes to this reaction. Whether its watching a movie or riding in your car and putting on some garbage music, remember what you put in is what you get out.
You will see cultural differences in cursing, the taboos of society. Im a a Muslim American, My parents are from pakistan, recently two of my friends were discussing cursing, one told the other stop cursing, the other said how do you define a curse?, then he said its a word you would’nt say to your parents, so the other brother responded “sex” is a curse then?, i was laughing but its true, we have to be more clear and help people understand in within our pakistani and american barriers, of course you have to never say things in a haraam context! get what im saying?
But if we want to examine cursing/profanity then look at definitions, and the reason why you say it, Of course cursing never helps, it just satifies a person themself for expressing their emotions, we all know what the f word means, so why say it. Don’t justify evil otherwise you are bringing yourself closer to the one who is most cursed, the SHATAN!!!!
Inshallah Allah guides us, and helps us remember why we say things and for what reason and guard us from the shataan, and help us realize the importance of speech in dawah, and help us difference between Halaal and Haraam, let me end by quoting our noble Prophet Muhammad “Indeed some forms of speech are magical”, so speak with wisdom and help revive the sunnah….
