Islamic Pickup lines? What the Haram?

fasadbook1.png

So, Being a Member of Fasad book i mean facebook, I happened to come across a group called

Islamic Pickup lines

(for all you guys/gals out there)

Astugfurillah.

Obviously i sensed fitnah at first, and as i continued reading what the group is about, i happened to come across some of these “so called Islamic pickup lines”. Mad haraam yo! Here are some examples of lines of which the group was promoting, as you can see these people had alot of times on their hand, and they are obviously real lonely….

1) 1. I’m looking for the “Made In Jannah” tag
2. Are those legs halal?
3.OMG!! I just saw part of your hair, now your obligated to marry me..
4. Wanna pray in jamaat? shoulder to shoulder, feet to feet?”
5.wanna date? i bought a whole box when i went to madinah”
6. Marry me so I don’t have to lower my gaze everytime you walk into the room..
7. Girl you fine, I see that praying 5 times a day has really payed off
8. Girl when i saw you i said mashallah, then i said inshallah
9. Would you like to help me wake up for Fajr?
10. Are you a Shiite? Because when I saw you, I said to myself, “She aiight”

being disappointed and upset, i told one of my good brother’s in Islam who does spoken poetry, to write to this group with lines to make them understand, that these aren’t in fact “Islamic Pickup Lines” and they are using Islam to encourage dating or flirting as you might agree!

So Brother Harris also known as Rated Writes in Response to this issue:

I’m not going to blow this out of proportion,
with a stick or a bomb, but question is
how would you feel if someone used those lines
on your sister or mom?
if you believe, then how can you mock your religion,
with irresponsible sense of humor blocking your vision,
don’t tell me I’m too sensitive,
cause thats rubble and trash,
its sad to see, brothers and sisters disgrace
Islam for a couple of laughs,
would you sell out your deen for a dance and a date,
while kufr nations eat off the ummah dirty
hands in the plate,
our wounds are deep,
this is salt upon the blister,
brothers, you know you wouldn’t let a man
use those lines upon your sister,
this is what you cheer for?
is this what we’re here for?
is this what the sahabah’s shed their
blood and tears for,
i cant see the kitchen
but i can see whats cooking,
shatan laughing the hardest cause
this time the jokes on the Muslims,
how would the children in Palestine feel,
if they knew you used islam with dirty humor and appeal,
this is one example of putting shatan above you,
why you humiliating the only woman that loved you,
take the jokes back, this aint the path of Allah ,
a good laugh ain’t worth the mighty wrath of Allah ,
so how is the Muslim ummah suppose to win,
when we think we picking up lines
when we only picking up sin?

Mashallah, so chill with these “Islamic Pick up Lines”, When it’s time for you to get married, Inshallah Allah swt will take care of you…..

    mashaAllah nice poem.

  16. Mariam June 11, 2008 at 10:04 pm #

i’ve seen these pick up lines before and i just thought they were a joke…i’m muslim, a girl in college, wear hijab and abaya and they don’t really offend me…the thing is humor is allowed in islam…guys don’t really use corny lines like this on girls…its just to show how lame Muslim guys can be when they are trying to hit on a girl…as long as its in the context of a joke i think its okay, even though i know jokes shouldn’t have haram stuff in them either…but again as long as its passed along in an e-mail as a joke rather than someone really tring to flirt with a girl its kind of harmless. really, if someone used a line like that on me I’d laugh–really long and really hard—they’re the dumbest things i’ve ever heard. I REALLY DON’T WANT TO OFFEND ANYONE…just saying humor is fine in Islam and we shouldn’t try to blow non-issues out of proportion–at least i think its a non-issue, i might be wrong–sometimes i can be a little naive…lol …GREAT POEM BY THE WAY!!! Your sister in Islam

    • Hassan March 19, 2010 at 5:39 pm #

Totally agree. If a Muslim guy was gonna go pick up girls, he would’ve done it anyways, whether he saw the e-mail or not. I thought it was pretty funny, and didn’t think it was insulting to anyone or anything. Just a little humor. Lighten up guys :)

    and props 2 the poet

  19. Hana December 31, 2008 at 7:49 pm #

MashAllah, these are some really good lines, and so, so true.

  20. averagemoe February 23, 2009 at 10:53 pm #

Props to the poet, but lets remeber this is a joke. I myself got this in an email and forwarded it to my friends for fun, none of us are stupid enough to actually use this, even if we were gonna try to pick up a girl. I think you underate the intelligence of a brother, and the standards of a sister if you think this could lead to any real fitnah

  21. Naeema March 1, 2009 at 5:24 pm #

    Aslamau-alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh
I had maha(ur cousin/niece) help me with ma spelling masha’allah i can’t spell arabic for nuthin!Masha’allah i was reading the “pick-up” lines and they had me rollin simply cuz i have never heard them before…THEN i got to the other brothers ..”flo” about his outlook on it and masha’allah the brother has sum ill rhymes and his point is very good :) insha’allah allah will keep your website going and keep the halal going too.
    Salam,
    Naeema

    • Anonymous April 10, 2010 at 12:48 pm #

Yeah, I felt the same, I laughed at first at how ridiculous they are (specially #5) and then was humbled at the brother’s poem. I well up with pride when our muslim brothers lay the smack down! LOL

  22. Kareem April 22, 2009 at 7:23 am #

It all depends on the context of the given situation. It may turn out funny or offensive.

  23. muslimah June 24, 2009 at 6:15 pm #

Well done to brother harris marshallah its refreashing to see a muslim who understands islam correctly, people commenting that these jokes are light hearted humour are severly mistaken whether or not these lines are used for zina etc or not mocking at islam is HARAM, as a young muslim girl i am tired of ppl saying we are a humourless ummah as this is totally untrue i have found myself to be elated and joyful when i have been engaging in dhikr and rembering allah my heart then feels happy and out of all the people i know i am the happiest i dont feel the need to mock at the beautiful words of my lord. lastly refering to the comment ‘john’ made its FUNNY how disbelievrs attack islam with such vigour and hatred is it perhaps because they see the truth, well done brothers and sisters for not stooping to his level and using such foul language,

    salam all

    Pickup lines don’t encourage dating.

  25. Ali April 8, 2010 at 12:08 am #

Get a life. There’s nothing wrong with dating or flirting otherwise allah wouldnt have given us the desire to date or flirt.

    • Mr Khan April 8, 2010 at 1:21 am #

Well there is nothing wrong if you are dating or flirting with your spouse. It’s like saying there’s nothing wrong with eating from this tree, otherwise Allah swt wouldn’t have put it in the garden…

      • Rania Abuisnaineh February 15, 2011 at 8:36 pm #

        Whoa, nice analogy!
Kudos for the Masha’Allah clever response.
Still shocked though, how could a person say that our desires alone are enough to justify haram?
Does that mean we should blow up in our parents’ face when they anger us just because we have the urge?
        Subhan’Allah…

    • NeufNeuf July 25, 2011 at 12:30 pm #

um, yeah, sure, except for the fact Allah forbade dating and flirting with people of the opp;osite gender you’re not married to.

  26. WhatTheJahanam? June 20, 2010 at 11:35 pm #

man i really don’t find these offensive though i still believe there wrong especially when these jokes contain inappropriate stuff…kinda funny though, astughfirallah

  27. Kaay.S. June 28, 2010 at 7:53 pm #

Those pickup lines gave me a good laugh, but their purpose is kinda sad. Muslims, especially the younger ones, really have to stay away from dating and that kinda stuff.
And Masha’Allah, the bro who wrote those rhymes has a lotta talent, good job :)

  28. maybearwa July 24, 2010 at 1:22 am #

Cmon folks. Lighten up. Islam is our holy religion but it’s also everything we know and is therefore our culture. So if kids are gonna use what they know if they flirt. And kids will never stop flirting. It’s just a joke. Lame maybe, but not something to get angry or offended over.

How would the children of Palestine feel? Dude, NOT OKAY. DO NOT use Palestinian children’s suffering and pain and co-opt it to make your argument stronger. Alright? You crossed a line there.

  29. Maywish October 1, 2010 at 8:36 pm #

    nice poem mashaAllah

  30. bernie October 27, 2010 at 2:45 pm #

Here are some more Muslim Pickup Lines

  31. Noor December 11, 2010 at 12:51 am #

Wow these pickup lines made me roll on the floor and i never really looked at them like they were harmful but that poem made me realize like seriously the diff between Muslims and other is our Haya’h and alot of other stuff but seriously if we let lines like this be linked to islam in any sort of way where is our Haya’h even if brothers arent using them and this is just a joke its still online where everyone sees them so now whats the difference betwween us and them?

  32. 5timesaday January 15, 2011 at 9:07 pm #

id like to say mashAllah 4 haveing a great sense ov humour!-luv JB

  33. Rania Abuisnaineh January 17, 2011 at 11:03 am #

I loved this–Jazakum Allah br. Sa’ad for sharing! You’re right, while these pick-up lines may appear humorous at first glance, they’re just imitation of haram merely guised as “Islamic.” Awesome poem, that brother’s got skills, Masha’Allah!

    I’m definitely sharing this…

  34. Anonymous March 16, 2011 at 11:26 pm #

oma i wish i cud write like that that is true poetry i just saved this sending it to al those people who mock islam

  35. CrazyCousinLance June 21, 2011 at 10:54 pm #

Slapstick transcends all religion, and if properly done will bring a smile to allah!

  36. NeufNeuf June 22, 2011 at 8:49 pm #

A lot of people are saying that those lines are okay, when they’re NOT.
I don’t think you guys get the magnitude of this.
As Muslims, we are the servants of Allah SWT, right?
As servants, our only goal is to ultimately gain the pleasure of our Lord, and this is certainly NOT helping us!
Its clearly a mockery of Islam, and such saying should be avoided at all costs.

Besides, the speech exchanged between brothers and sisters should be minimal anyway, so I don’t think anyone should even be able to find time to exchange such words with the opposite gender.
Sorry to get into gender relations so much, but yeah.

But the way, Mashallah, your poetry was beautiful!

  37. Dibs July 19, 2011 at 10:36 am #

I tend to agree with maybearwa in respect to co-opting some other cause to try and bolster one’s argument. Usually a sign of a weak position.

The Palestinian cause – it would help if their own didn’t line their own pockets and sell the rest down the river, but then again that sort of thing is epidemic in the (Middle) East.

As for the chat up lines – humour is a coping mechanism, folk laugh about all sorts of things, including the most serious of all – Death. Haraam? Seriously – get a grip.

As for #8 – that’s how it should be!

  38. Ren July 24, 2011 at 5:23 am #

Salam alaikum. This is truely disturbing. I didn’t laugh at any of them, and I have a very liberal sense of humor.

@Mariam and maybearwa: Mocking Islam even in the slightest constitutes kufr. They are not “Just jokes” when they involve our deen. This relaxed attitude is what the makers of southpark and the danish cartoons want Muslims to adopt. “it’s just a joke, relax…”

“And if you were to ask them, they would say: ‘SURELY WE WERE ONLY JESTING AND PLAYING.’ Say: ‘Was it Allah, His Verses, or His Messenger you were mocking?
Make no mistake, verily you have disbelieved after your belief.”
    [Quran, surah at-Tawbah, 9:65-66]

May Allah reward br. Harris for his effort in humbling us. I don’t see anything wrong with asking what suffering children would think of people mocking their religion. Islam is the only thing many of them have left, and us ‘privileged’ Muslims enjoy joking about it…

  39. Falak August 14, 2011 at 12:39 am #

    Hey… How you wu’duin’?

  40. Ali August 14, 2011 at 10:35 pm #

check your self brother,, I converted 5 years ago….and did not laugh one bit. Very unislamic taste of humor.
