I'm not sure where it came from either. But, I know that there's a MSA National State rep from Central zone (Indiana?) who did a whole program geared around the pun, since her (local) MSA had problems with "gender interactions & mingling." It was all about "dating" during Ramadan. Some people brought (eating)dates, but, most brought (other)dates.
