Starting a MSA….

Salam, At my community college sadly the Msa (Muslim Students Association) has been inactive, easy for me to say or anyone dissatisfied at the state of it, but you know i realized myself along with some brothers and sisters that we have to start it up, everyday i walk on campus, i see the absence of an Islam, Mashallah A brother reverted last week, and some brothers and sisters are coming back to the deen, but the majority are still left drying, I personally feel like when our Msa gets active and Inshallah we have programs that are appealing then many Muslims who aren’t in remembrance of the Deen can come back to the teachings and practices of Islam.Msa at Kbcc

Last semester i used to ask myself all the time, there is so much social gender interaction amongst the Muslims, where is the MSA? Alhumduillah i was able to get in contact with a sister and she along with the MSA held two successful programs, one with Shiekh Khalid Yasin, What is the purpose of life?, and another on how is the status of woman in Islam. Both were really good and it attracted muslims and non muslims. What i realized after observing how the state of MSA is, was that i had to do something about making it more productive, and what good is it for me to come to college just for my own studies, there must be consideration of dawah and the image of Islam on campus as well as unifying the muslims and making moves. So now since it’s ramadan and everyone is asking where is the MSA?, myself along with brothers and sisters with the help of Allah inshallah will have programs, and most importantly build a proper prayer room.

Although we have a room, it has no carpet, and it’s pretty small and Inshallah if we can get funds and think of ways to expand then we will do our best to make sure our MSA is active, and muslims on campus feel comfortable about having a place to pray and more importantly feel are reminded of their identity on and off campus. So the lesson is don’t expect things to happen, do something about it, Allah says in the quran, he does not change the conditions of the people unless they choose to change for the better, so stop criticizing, its easy to talk, but we must be proactive Inshallah!
