Material Slavery
Salam,
Let me start off by giving you a quote by a man name Thomas Stanley who said something so real
“I taught my sons and daughters that money is not their God. You control it….not let it control you.”
When i started working, i used to spend money like i printed it, from haircuts every week to new clothes, to new shoes, you name it, what i waste of time! Being a slave to money but importantly the biggest loss ever, time.
See time is the worst thing to waste, unlike money and your tax returns, you can’t get time back, once it’s gone, that’s it! Finish Brothers and Sisters…As Shaykh Hamza Yusuf says
“You break your watch and you run out of battery, you can get a recharge, but the real clock is your internal clock, and that doesn’t come with a recharge”
So back to the issue at hand. What are we doing with our main resources, Our Health! our Money! and Our Time!.
I never understood why some employees in my store would work two weeks to save up to buy 150 dollar shoes, whether they would be the hottest jordans coming out, or just an outfit for Friday night to wear to the club, being slaves to the system, money is the root of all evil. I’d like to say its crazy how we work a certain place, more importantly put in a certain amount of hours, Alhumduillah we get money to get by but then lose our purpose with it in our hands and spend carelessly, obviously their is a sense of love for this life and interest in the material aspects.
We must constantly remember what Prophet Isa said ” This world is a bridge, cross over it, don’t build on it”, so all those people acting all big cause they have humongous houses, forget it, Inshallah in heaven every believer will have houses and space to chill 6 times the size of earth.
Now obviously people work hard for their money, so it would only make sense for them to spend it on what they like, but as Muslims we need to focus on the centrality of Zakat. Not 100 dollar nike shoes, or any shoes, i realized that the first thing we do when we buy shoes is we put it on our feet, and you walk in them, so what I’m saying is be smart, just get enough to get by as talib kweli says.
Our beloved Prophet Muhammad said “Seven people will be shaded under Allah’s Throne on the Day on which there will be no other shade: (1) a just ruler, (2) a young person who worships Almighty Allah, (3) a person whose heart is attached to Masajid, (4) two people who love one another for the sake of Allah, and who come together and part for His sake, (5) a man who is called by a beautiful woman of good family, but refuses her, saying ‘I fear Allah’, (6) a person who gives his money in charity so secretly that his left hand does not know what his right hand gives, and (7) someone who remembers Allah privately, so that his eyes brim with tears.” (Bukhari, Muslim).
As most of you have probably heard, the poor believers will enter 40 years ahead of the wealthy believers. Why? Because they will have less to be accountable for. See money comes and goes, some people say more money more problems in Brooklyn, and as one rapper said ” more money more problems, I’m working with both, but your problems are worse when your broke”. I agree somewhat. But what the main point I’m trying to make is be wise of your spending and be conscious with what Allah has given you, Remember Everything is a Trial! And this trial is real and its for a certain lifespan, and once the trial is done…their will be judgment, Fair Judgment! You won’t have no lawyers, just you, and your deeds.
So Ramadan is coming to an end, during fasting the main purpose is to refrain from actions which destroy our iman, so inshallah let’s take account of our life and remember who we submit to at the end of the day Allah, and be thankful for everything he has given us, Inshallah i hope we all make the best of Ramadan thats left and seek refuge from the hell fire. Ameen! Lets put our money where our mouth is and donate and with the right intentions and make the most of this blessed month…. no more materialism, or shatan visions, just going back to the straight path with pure intentions.
Allah says, “If you disclose your Sadaqat (alms giving), it is well, but if you conceal it, and give it to the poor, that is better for you. (Allah) will forgive you some of your sins. And Allah is Well-Acquainted with what you do” (Quran 2:271).
