It’s time to reach the American Muslim Market. $170 billion purchasing power, now that’s Arab money.
Salam,
Shout out to my man Michael from desedo films, I recently got quoted in the Huffington Post and alt muslim about the purchasing power of the American Muslim Market. I basically said it’s time to advertise to Muslims, and it wouldn’t hurt to at least test the market purchasing strength.
As consumers, we buy our goods and services based on principles, sounds like any other market really. It’s just up to companies to cater to us.
So Marketing to Muslims, I mean why not? Our community has alot of money. We rock Nike, converse, lacoste, sean john, shop at wal mart, h and m, you name it. As long as the outfit is shariah compliant and makes us look fresh, then it’s all good, oh yea the price has to be economically efficient.
If you haven’t heard already, Wal Mart and Ikea have already started marketing to Muslims. Check this out, Newsweek reports that:
Wal-Mart offers its standard fare, plus 550 items targeted at Middle Eastern shoppers….walk through the front door of the 200,000-square-foot supercenter and instead of rows of checkout counters, you find a scene akin to a farmers market in Beirut. Twenty-two tables are stacked high with fresh produce like kusa and batenjan, squash and eggplant used in Middle Eastern dishes… a walled-off section of the butcher case is devoted to Halal meats.
That’s pretty nice, the Hispanic market had a wave of marketing, I believe it’s only a matter of time before we see the same on a greater scale. Considering the American Muslim Market is comparatively more educated and has a greater household income, it’s a no brainer. In this economy, brands and advertisers are looking for new ways to generate revenue. Well I think It’s time they tap into the market that generally saves more, and spends wisely.
As an American Muslim consumer, I would want to see a halal McDonald’s and KFC. Speaking of halal mcnuggets, it’s already being served in the UK and for KFC, they already have it Chicago, where many Muslim’s live. But I want some of that finger lickin halal chicken in the big apple also! I remember when I went to Canada, I had halal Popeye’s for the first time. It was slammin.
If your a company reading this, thinking about advertising to Muslims, stop thinking and make moves. I mean the Economist magazine has already stated the facts:
- “Two-thirds of Muslim households make more than $50,000 a year and a quarter earn over $100,000”
- “The national average is $42,000. Two-thirds of American Muslims have a college degree, compared with less than half of the general population.”
Now that’s purchasing power in a recession.
I think advertising to Muslims will be very beneficial for both Mainstream Brands and the American Muslim community. Which is why Wal Mart, the world’s largest retail chain has already started it.
The point of all this is American Muslims have a way of life and we have the freedom to live it here. I’m sure everyone is thankful to God for that, on a consumer level, not catering to us will suck for you and us.
I am not encouraging materialism, I’m just trying to help the American Muslim Market and Companies that are missing out on this niche.
Their seems to be a marketing and advertising company which focuses specifically on the Muslim Market called “Muslim Ad Network”. It’s great a company like this exist, it gives advertisers the ability to advertise to millions of Muslims here in North America across a network of sites that attract different segments of the Muslim demographic.
Btw, if your an Islamic site looking to make revenue off halal ads,“Muslim Ad Network” provides a great solution, check it out insh’Allah. I actually joined their network and Alhumduillah I’m making great revenue but most importantly, I don’t need to worry about haraam ads!
Have a nice day, I mean life. Spend wisely and get that halal guap.
I’ll be writing more later inshallah, peace.
