Drop it like it’s hot
Salam,
Don’t get no dirty snoop dogg thoughts in your head. The reason why I chose this topic is because I wanted to talk a little bit about putting some money in the donation box, or without getting to specific looking out for the brothers and sisters who are broke but need help. It can also be for a positive cause such as cancer research or just funding a community project that has a good beneficial purpose.
Every friday when jumuah comes around, I tell myself I will try to bring money with me to the masjid, even if it is a quarter. So you know I walk in to the masjid, after the khutbah is given we all make our jamaat then as we are leaving the masjid the donation box is right there so you can’t act like you missed it. In most desi masjid’s I see the opposite, where a man comes with a donation box and he goes around waiting for people to drop the money like it’s hot. I’m going to stick to the arab method, collecting money during the khutbah is a distraction. People try to get a sneak peak on how much your giving. Calm down brother! It’s not your business.
Anyways often what happens is we tend to forget that Allah looks out for us if we remember him. One thing we should remind ourselves when giving zakat is that we are giving it for the sake of God and we should keep it on the low low. Allah swt is well aware of what you do, If you donate with pride, it destroys the purpose. Feel me? In the Holy Quran Allah says, “If you disclose your Sadaqat (alms giving), it is well, but if you conceal it, and give it to the poor, that is better for you. (Allah) will forgive you some of your sins. And Allah is Well-Acquainted with what you do” (Quran 2:271).
Everytime I try to drop some guap in the donation box, Shatan comes and starts whispering in my ear. He’s like ” Yo saad chill, you need that money, how you going to buy food? you gotta save it. Put it in the stock market or something or matter of fact buy yourself a new shirt”.
Chill out shatan, The best way to have a fixed return on an investment is to donate for the sake of Allah swt. Not stocks. Well maybe shariah compliant stocks. I’m not a certified financial analyst so I’m not going to attempt to tell you where to put your money. But I can gurantee that when you give from your heart with sincerity for Allah, you will get your halal revenue back. Nouman Ali khan was speaking about this and he said ” I know so many stories where brothers give money for Allah and all of a sudden they got a new job offer, a new promotion, a salary increase” Mashallah.
So what is zakat? Zakat is translated from Arabic means growth, multiplicity, fertility, cleansing, full of baraqah, purifcation, growth.
We should make ourselves understand that when we give zakat, we are certain to get a return. It’s the second pillar of Islam and it’s our reponsibility and obligation to make sure we are always dropping some money. Everything in this life is a trial for us, our time, our money, our body. So let’s get movin Inshallah.
We always spend so much on the dunya, I have this habit also. I believe if we just started shifting some of our money towards a beneficial cause or masjid then we will see our life become better. If we prioritize Islam in our life with a good foundation and the five pillars then we will be firm in our faith.
