Incase you didn’t know let me just give you a news summary of the awful incident that occurred in Toronto.
So basically a father named Muhammad Parvaz strangled his daughter named Aqsa Parvaz because she refused to wear hijab. The victim, Aqsa Parvez, was “rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries, but tragically passed away late last night.” Her father was arrested on the spot of the crime scene and has been charged with murder.
I’m happy to hear that he will be punished through the proper legal system of the country he lives in. What he did was wrong! Killing someone because they refuse to follow Islamic beliefs is not allowed and i personally condemn this behavior and I’m sure any educated individual from any belief especially Islam would agree.
I don’t know what made him act this way, but obviously there is ignorance. As a result individuals such as him who are muslim carrying out these types of actions are threatening the security of the world and most importantly making Islam look nefarious. We already know the Islam haters are using this incident to judge us but we must live in reality and understand and that ignorance is wide spread, if our own muslims don’t understand the deen then that can lead to internal destruction.
Im sure if the father talked the issue of hijab with his daughter and explain the wisdom and purpose to then the result would have been different. I was at a program last week and the shiekh mentioned a story where a sister wanted to revert to Islam but didn’t want to wear the hijab because i guess she wasn’t comfortable. They told her to revert to Islam and not wear the hijab. A few weeks later through guidance and her patience she started to wear the hijab on her own. This can be a such a beautiful example to those who try to force religion on anybody. As Muslims we are supposed to give dawah with kind words and wisdom not strangle people to death.
Allah says in the Quran..
“…if any one slew a person – unless it be for murder or for spreading mischief in the land – it would be as if he slew the whole people: and if any one saved a life, it would be as if he saved the life of the whole people.”
[Al-Qur’an 5:32]
Such is the value of a single human life, that the Qur’an equates the taking of even one human life unjustly, with killing all of humanity. Thus, the Qur’an prohibits homicide in clear terms. The taking of a criminal’s life by the state in order to administer justice is required to uphold the rule of law, and the peace and security of the society. Only a proper and competent court can decide whether an individual has forfeited his right to life by disregarding the right to life and peace of other human beings. (From Why Islam Dawah Pamphlet)
So Inshallah that cleared up some misconceptions, Anyone who is still showing the same opinion towards Islam that it encourages murder and terrorism obviously hasn’t done thorough research. We must be fair and respectful human beings towards each other in any faith tradition and we cannot take the actions of a handful of people to judge a whole religion.
So what do you think, drop a comment, any person confused please feel free to ask questions!

Salaam akh,
I think we should call be careful of over-simplifying what happened and saying it was all because of the hijaab – there might have been other factors involved (check out MR's post on this.) Similarly, we gotta draw a line between "cultural Islam" and "Islam", this seems to me a cultural crime. Good insight however
he was a fundo.
fundo=crazy man?
asim wat do you mean by cultural crime?……….i think this was an ignorant crime………due to LACK OF RELIGION
Khayr, this shows how lack of knowledge can get us into trouble.
Our beautiful deen is being lost, all we can do is pray for the entire Ummah, and hope for a better tomorrow.
